The Fairplex Garden Tour
Mainline Action
California Discovered - the history of California and the role of the railroads from 1850 to present is the theme of the layout. Throughout the exhibit are scenes depicting mining, logging, the old west, a California mission, business and residential development, industrial areas, and oil fields. The railroad comes to life as the trains venture through mountains, farmlands, lakes, rivers, towns and deserts.
Today over 9,800 feet of track provide for the running of over 30 trains at one time. Approximately 2,000 linear feet of underground pipes and conduits support the operation. Nearly eighteen miles of wires are required to operate the electrical systems and over 12,000 gallons of water flow through its lakes, rivers and streams.
